ZENIZUKA

ZENIZUKA KOFUN

Location Higashiuenoshiba-cho 1, Nishi-ku

Situated approximately 100 meters south of Guwashobo Kofun and inside the Osaka Prefectural Sakai Nursing School, Zenizuka kofun is a kind of keyhole-shaped burial mound, facing west. Since the front square portion of the mound has been removed and flattened, it looks like a round burial mound. However, excavations conducted by Osaka Prefecture Board of Education in 1981 through 1982 as well as in 2007 confirmed the size of the mound approximately 72 meters long, with the round portion 54 meters in diameter and the square portion 44 meters wide. Also, there existed a moat around it.
Precisely it is categorized as a scallop shell-shaped burial mound. A row of cylindrical haniwa was found on the northern part of the round portion.
It is designated as one of national historic sites.
