TSUKAMAWARI

TUKAMAWARI KOFUN

Location Mozusekiun-cho 1, Sakai-ku

Located east of Nintoku-tennno-ryo Kofun, Tukamawari kofun is considered one of its satellite tombs. The moat has already been buried, and has become a residential area. An excavation has confirmed this kofun as a round burial mound, approximately 32 meters in diameter and 5.1 meters high. It also revealed that a row of haniwa was placed on the bottom skirt of the mound.
It was excavated in 1912, and burial goods, including two copper beast mirrors, swords and plenty of beads of different types such as jadeite, japer, glass and talc, were unearthed. The location of the buried moat has been marked with tiles on the western street.
It is designated as one of national historic sites.
