TATSUSAYAMA
TATSUSAYAMA KOFUN
Location Daisen-nakamachi 2, Sakai-ku
Facing west, Tatsusayama Kofun is a keyhole-shaped burial mound right south of Nintoku-tenno-ryo kofun, and it is considered one of its satellite tombs. The overall length of the mound is 61 meters, with the round part 43 meters in diameter and the square part 26 meters wide. Precisely it is categorized as a scallop shell-shaped burial mound.
An excavation revealed the existence of fukiishi and cylindrical haniwa, and the single moat, which was approximately 10 meters wide, surrounded the mound. However, it is unclear whether a burial chamber has existed or not.
The front square portion and the moat around it have been restored. The mound is under the supervision of the Imperial Household Agency whereas a part of the square portion and the moat are under the city.
The overall length of the burial mound is 61 meters. The diameter of the rear circular portion is 43 meters and the width of the front square portion is 26 meters. It is formed in the shape of a scallop with a short square base.
In one excavation dig, stone buttresses and clay cylinders were found. Also, it appears that a moat of roughly 10 meters wide encircled the entire mound, but it is uncertain whether a burial chamber had existed.
Presently, the moat has been restored and the rear circular portion is under the protection of the Imperial Household Agency and the front square portion is under the protection of Sakai City.
