OSAMEZUKA

OSAMEZUKA KOFUN

Location Mozusekiun-cho 2, Sakai-ku

Closely located to the southeastern corner of Nintoku-tenno-ryo Kofun’s front square, Osamezuka kofun is considered one of its satellite tombs.
The moat has been reclaimed and the front square part has been removed and flattened, and so it looks like a round burial mound. However, it was originally a scallop shell type of keyhole-shaped burial mound with the overall length of approximately 59 meters. The existing round part is about 42.8 meters in diameter and 4.2 meters high.
Pieces of cuirasses were collected on top of the mound. Also, a row of haniwa from the round part and fukiishi from the square part were unearthed. The place of existed moat is clearly indicated with tiles on the street south of the mound.
It is one of national historic sites among the Mozu Tumulus Group.
