Lianyungang

Located in Jiangsu Province, the People's Republic of China, Lianyungang is a major industrial city. The port of Lianyungang, which is one of the eight most important ports in China, has also entered a friendship link with Sakai-Semboku Port.
Lianyungang's population is approximately 4.65 million and the land area is 7,444 square kilometers.
The friendship city agreement with Sakai was established on December 3, 1983.

Development of the relationship

After Japan and Chinese restored diplomatic relations, Lianyungang was seen as an important industrial city with similarities to Sakai, making the two cities natural candidates for a sister city relationship. Sakai-Semboku Port already had a sister port relationship with the Port of Lianyungang, one of China's eight most important ports, and the two cities established a sister city relationship in 1983.

City profile

Located about 450 kilometers from Shanghai, Lianyungang is noteworthy for ongoing economic development whose pace is remarkable even in increasingly reformed and open China. The Port of Liangyungang serves as an important gateway to the world, and the city is actively involved in foreign capital investment and joint ventures. The city is located between mountains and the sea and is one of Jiangsu Province's three best-known sightseeing destinations.
