53rd Sakai Festival October 17th (Sat) & 18th (Sun)

From Sakaihigashi station to Sakai station spanning around 1km, including Uchikawa River and a part of Daidosuji Street, the area will be completely transformed into a festival zone. There will of course be the majestic ‘Gun squad demonstration’, the ‘Carrying of Futon daiko’, as well as fun stage events, food stalls, food trucks, and tea ceremony experiences. This is a participatory street festival where you can enjoy the charm of Sakai, including its history, traditional culture, and modern industries. Last year, the event attracted approximately 410,000 visitors in total. Let’s look forward to enjoying it again this year!

Saturday 17th 16:00-21:00 (pre-event)

※Only on 17th: Futon daiko carrying competition (street in front of the city hall from 18:30-20:30)

2 – Citizen Power Street & Stage
Yuya Elementary School east gate ~ west side
There will be an opening ceremony, dynamic citizen performances, sports experiences, and Sakai Cycle City PR booth
3 – Traditional Culture & International Exchange Street
Yuya Elementary School west side~ Sankei Shimbun Sakai Branch west side
Tea ceremony experience, traditional industry workshops, ASEAN country booths, local specialty exhibits and sale booths
4 – Gun Squad Stage

8 – Daidosuji Café Terrace (pedestrian zone)

9 – Hometown of Rikyu Tea Ceremony Zones
- Nanshuji Temple: Saturday 17th 9:00~15:40 (accepting people until 14:50). Authentic tea ceremony by 3 major tea schools
- Sakai Plaza of Rikyu and Akiko: Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th 10:00-17:00 (accepting people until 16:30) Matcha tea service by students etc.
