What is "Sakai-ASEAN Week"?

Sakai has a long history of prosperity as an international city through its exchange with countries overseas. Particularly in the medieval and early modern eras, Sakai became a center of international trade in Japan because of its long trading history with ASEAN countries.
With this background, we started "Sakai-ASEAN Week" in 2009, in commemoration of the 120th anniversary of the municipalization of Sakai city.
This project is intended to strengthen the relationship between ASEAN countries and Sakai in terms of economic, cultural, tourism and educational exchange. For that purpose, we prepare various programs such as Cultural Introduction Program (Sakai-ASEAN square), Student Ambassador (Minkantaishi) Program, Information Transmission Program, and so on to promote internationalization, multi-culturalization and Sakai city itself.
