Sakai is home to one of Japan's largest concentrations of industrial facilities and ranks in the top 15 locations in terms of total value of industrial shipments such as manufactured products, number of places of business, and number of employees.
Combined with the city's historical background, the marketability of being located in close proximity to Osaka has made the city attractive to a wide range of industries. Among these, companies representing the metal products manufacturing and general machinery and instrument manufacturing industries are overwhelmingly numerous.
