Hi there!
Let me take this chance to introduce myself. My name is Nathan, and like the previous editor, I too am from the beautiful city of Wellington in New Zealand. Sadly, it was time for Melissa to return home but I really hope City Life can continue to be a valuable and interesting resource for foreigners living in Sakai. I would love your feedback, so feel free to email me at kokusai@city.sakai.lg.jp or better yet come visit me in the International Division on the 4th floor of Sakai City Hall!
Happy Reading!!
-Nathan
The Child Allowance scheme has changed. ALL recipients will need to reapply to keep receiving payments. Please make yourself familiar with the following changes to the amount of compensation and the eligibility criteria.
| Under 3yo | 3 years old — Elementary Yr 6 | Middle School | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st/2nd Child | ¥15000 | ¥10000 | ¥10000 |
| 3rd or more Children | ¥15000 | ¥15000 | ¥10000 |
a) The child must live in Japan (excepting a child on an international exchange)
b) In cases where the parents are in the process of divorcing and living apart, child allowance will be paid to the parent with whom the child lives and/or who raises the child.
There are further changes which affect orphanages, foster-homes, and parents/guardians living overseas. Please contact your local ward office for more details.
To continue receiving Child Allowance payments it will be necessary for ALL parents to reapply from October 2011
If you were already receiving child allowance payments before September 30 you should receive an application per post automatically.
Upon the birth of a child, or moving to Sakai with a child, you have 15 days to apply for the allowance.
If the new requirements apply to you, please see your local ward office on or after 1 October for further advice.
Municipal and Prefectural income taxes are paid in quarterly installments in the year after they are earned. The third payment is due by 31 October 2011. You can pay at financial institutions, post offices, most convenience stores or at any ward city tax office. Please check your bank balance first if you wish to pay by automatic transfer.
