Hanzei-ryo Tumulus: An imposing presence on the cluster’s northern flank

Situated on the northern end of the Mozu Tumulus Cluster, Hanzei-ryo Tumulus is also known as Mozunomimihara-no-kita-no-misasagi and Tadeiyama Tumulus. The site consists of a keyhole-shaped mound 148 meters in length in close proximity to two smaller tumuli thought to be baicho (smaller mounds located near major tumuli). It is thought to have been constructed during the second half of the fifth century, making it slightly younger than Nintoku-ryo Tumulus.
